TOKYO: The Japan Sport Association has canceled three exchange programs with Russia that had been scheduled for fiscal 2022, which started this month, due to Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine, association officials said Friday.

The three were a boxing event in Sapporo in the northernmost Japan prefecture of Hokkaido and a judo event in Munakata in the southwestern prefecture of Fukuoka as well as a visit by elementary and junior high school students in Hokkaido to the Russian city of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk for a judo event.

The association was to host the programs, aided by state subsidies.

The association said it started seeking donations Friday for Ukraine in cooperation with the Japanese Olympic Committee and the Japanese Para Sports Association.

Donations will be accepted until July 29 and will be sent to Ukraine via the Office of the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees.
