The Central Japan Railway Co. said that a new bullet train model will be put into service on the Tokaido-Shinkansen Line between Tokyo and Shin-Osaka on July 1, in time for the Tokyo Summer Olympics and Paralympics, according to Nippon Hoso Kyokai (NHK).

The N700S suffix stands for ‘supreme’ and forms part of the Shinkansen high-speed railway lines in Japan.

The Shinkansen bullet trains launched their services before the 1964 Paralympic Games to connect distant Japanese regions with Tokyo. The N700S will be the first new model the company has launched in five years, reported NHK.

The new model of bullet train will have new state-of-the-art features, including reduced noise and air resistance, increased security measures, and built-in lithium-ion batteries in case of power outage.

Over the next three years, the Japanese railway operator plans to introduce a total of 40 N700S trains, five of which will be launched before the games this summer, NHK said.
