TOKYO: Tokyo Big Sight has been hosting the “Tokyo International Fire and Safety Exhibition 2023” to mark the 100th anniversary of the Great Kanto Earthquake, which leveled much of Tokyo, as well as to showcase the latest equipment and techniques on the prevention and reduction of disasters.
The exhibition is hosting 326 commercial and official exhibitors to showcase emergency vehicles and drones, including drones that measure radioactivity in the air and can access spaces that humans cannot enter.
According to the organizers, more than 70,000 visitors and professionals from the sector have registered to take part in the exhibition.
The Tokyo Disaster Prevention and Emergency Medical Service Association has set up video projections of the Great Kanto Earthquake and a truck simulating the conditions of the earthquake can be experienced by visitors under the guidance of firefighters.
Many international exhibitors are present to share their disaster expertise with entrepreneurs and Japanese safety and prevention organizations. Spaces dedicated to firefighters working with the US military are also present and allow families to take commemorative photos.
American company Boston Dynamic’s dog robot has generated a lot of interest from both the public and Japanese officials as it can get into places where humans cannot gain access safely.
