TOKYO: Dancers from eight belly-dancing schools took to the stage in Tokyo’s Yoyogi Park on Saturday and Sunday and performed in front of several thousand enthusiastic fans.
Styles ranged from the Egyptian style to fusion style as the dancers competed for a first prize worth 100,000 yen offered by Bohemia Café in Shibuya district and the organizer of the Arabian Festival with its partner Earth Garden.
On Saturday evening, the public were able to view Japanese Bon Odori dancers alongside oriental dancers and a traditional Japanese dance troupe.
Whirling dervishes livened up the atmosphere on Sunday, performing the ‘Tenoura’, a dance where the performers spin and send their skirts twirling around themselves.
