
Fukushima: Saturday became the hottest day of the year in Japan as temperatures reached 40 degrees for the first time.
According to the Meteorological Agency, the mercury hit exactly 40 degrees at 2 p.m. in the northeastern city of Date, Fukushima.
At the same time, around 225 locations across Japan experienced temperatures of 35 degrees or higher. In Saki, Fuki Prefecture, temperatures rose above 39 degrees.
As the heat hit life-threatening levels, officials urged people to stay inside as much as they could and take precautions to prevent heat strokes.
