Kishida holds telephone summits separately with UAE, Qatar and Jordan leaders

Japan’s Prime Minister KISHIDA Fumio held three telephone summits separately with the leaders of UAE, Qatar, and Jordan.

According to the Foreign Ministry, Kishida talked first to UAE president Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, then to Qatar’s Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, and followed that with another telephone summit with Jordan’s King Abdullah II.

Kishida further expressed his appreciation for the three countries’ diplomatic efforts to calm down the situation and stated that Japan intends to implement emergency humanitarian aid of USD 10 million in total for citizens in the Gaza Strip through international organizations.

In response, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed told Kishida that he shared grave concerns about the situation and explained the UAE’s diplomatic efforts to calm the situation. In addition, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed expressed his appreciation for Japan’s diplomatic efforts and provision of humanitarian assistance.

The Foreign Ministry said the two leaders concurred on maintaining close cooperation, including in the UN Security Council, and working on improving the humanitarian situation and calming down the situation.

On his part, Emir Tamim of Qatar stated that he shared a grave concern about the situation on the ground and explained the diplomatic efforts of Qatar to calm down the situation and to realize the release of hostages as soon as possible, the Ministry said. 

The two leaders concurred on maintaining close cooperation between the two countries, working on improving the humanitarian situation, and calming down the situation.

Meanwhile, King Abdullah II stated that he shared great concern about the situation on the ground and explained Jordan’s diplomatic efforts in the wake of the attack. He also stated that he would continue cooperating on the departure of Japanese nationals from Israel and highly appreciated Japan’s diplomatic efforts and humanitarian assistance.

Prime Minister Kishida deeply appreciated Jordan’s cooperation regarding Japan Self Defense Force aircraft standing by in Jordan for the departure of Japanese nationals from Israel.

Kishida and Abdullah II shared the recognition that violence does not produce anything good and concurred on maintaining close cooperation to prevent further escalation of the situation.
