TOKYO: A violent hailstorm hit central Tokyo on Wednesday evening and sent Tokyoites rushing for cover and making driving conditions difficult in the center of Tokyo.
Hailstorms are quite rare in Tokyo, but huge cumulus nimbus clouds can form quickly and take the residents of Tokyo by surprise when they empty out onto the city, occasionally disrupting traffic and making the journey home difficult.
Fall is regarded by many Japanese as the perfect season. The heat of summer has gone, nights are cool once again and Japan’s forests have burst into many different colors. Most days are fine, but it is also the tail end of the typhoon season, and the weather is occasionally unpredictable and unstable.
No injuries or damage were reported on Wednesday, but such storms often leave devastation in their wake. More typhoons can be expected before winter sets in.
