
TOKYO: State Minister for Foreign Affairs HORII Iwao met with Israeli Ambassador to Japan Gilad Cohen on Thursday and requested cooperation from Israel for a humanitarian pause in the conflict in Gaza to implement humanitarian assistance to the people in the Gaza Strip. He also requested cooperation in ensuring the safety of Japanese nationals.
Horii stated that the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip is becoming increasingly severe and that it is crucial to increase the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.
Horii expressed Japan’s solidarity with the people of Israel and reiterated that Israel has a right to defend itself and its people in accordance with international law.
According to the Foreign Ministry, Ambassador Cohen stated that Israel deeply appreciates the solidarity shown by Japan and that Israel is making efforts to minimize casualties. He stated that Israel would continue to cooperate as much as possible to ensure the safety of Japanese nationals.
Horii and Cohen agreed to continue close communication on efforts toward stabilization of the region.
