TOKYO: Japan requested Israel’s cooperation for a humanitarian pause to implement assistance and access to improve the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip.

The request was made by Foreign Minister KAMIKAWA Yoko to the Israeli Ambassador Gilad Cohen during their meeting at the ministry on Friday.

According to the foreign ministry, Kamikawa once again requested cooperation in ensuring the safety of Japanese nationals.

In his reply, ambassador Cohen stated that Israel appreciates the solidarity shown by Japan and that Israel would continue to cooperate as much as possible to ensure the safety of Japanese nationals. He also explained the latest situation on the ground.

The ministry said Kamikawa and Cohen concurred to continue close communication toward stabilizing the region.

The Japanese Foreign minister reiterated that Japan has unequivocally condemned the recent terror attacks by Hamas and others and that Japan offers condolences to the bereaved families and expresses its heartfelt sympathies to the injured. Minister Kamikawa also expressed Japan’s solidarity with the people of Israel and reiterated that Israel has a right to defend itself and its people following international law.
