TOKYO: Japanese Foreign Minister KAMIKAWA Yoko visited the headquarters of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) in Jordan on Saturday and said she was heartbroken by the tragic situation in the Gaza Strip.
Kamikawa was briefed by UNRWA Commissioner GeneralPhilippe Lazzarini about the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip and the current situation of UNRWA.
Kamikawa also met with three Palestinian junior high school students from the Gaza Strip whom she had previously met in Tokyo, also in the company of Lazzarini.
Kamikawa stated that she was “heartbroken” by the tragic situation in the Gaza Strip and delighted to meet the students again. She said she hoped to see them reunited with their families and friends as soon as possible.
The students have been unable to return to the Gaza Strip due to the situation there and have been staying in UNRWA facilities in Amman.
The three students explained what happen to them after their visit to Japan in October. Kamikawa told them that Japan would try to help reduce tensions in the Gaza Strip as soon as possible.
