TOKYO: More than a thousand Japanese and foreign youths gathered in front of the barricaded Israeli Embassy, accusing Israel’s military of ‘extermination war’ after they bombed the Al Shifa Hospital in Gaza.

Demonstrators called for an immediate ceasefire, highlighting the fact that 40 percent of the 11,000 Palestinian casualties since the start of the conflict have been children.

Demonstrators shouted slogans and also accused the west of accepting Israeli war crimes that have trapped civilians and refugees, disrupted food and water supplies and cut off electricity to the hospital which also prevents essential medical equipment from operating.

A young Jewish-American activist from Chicago, said that she was ashamed of the Israeli government and its actions. She added that German family members had died in Nazi concentration camps, and she could not believe that the Israeli government would also commit genocide.

Heavy security was in place with police closing the roads leading to the embassy.

The day prior, a Japanese police officer was injured when a nationalist crashed his car into the barricades surrounding the embassy.
