
TOKYO: Japanese Prime Minister KISHIDA Fumio held a telephone talk with United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on Monday and expressed his concerns over the expansion of fighting in the Gaza Strip.
Kishida said he was very concerned about the resumption of fighting and the spread of combat to all areas of the Gaza Strip. He noted that Japan has provided Emergency Grant Aid worth $10 million for food, water and medical care and is currently working on the early delivery of an additional $65 million of humanitarian assistance.
Sheikh Mohamed explained the UAE’s diplomatic efforts towards achieving peace in Gaza as well as its humanitarian efforts. The two leaders agreed to maintain close cooperation toward improving the humanitarian situation and calming down the situation.
Kishida also expressed his appreciation for the stable supply of crude oil from the UAE to Japan over the years and his hopes that the UAE will continue to play a leading role in the stabilization of the global crude oil market, including through increased production.
The two leaders agreed to further strengthen the cooperative relationship between Japan and the UAE in various fields under the Comprehensive and Strategic Partnership Initiative.
Kishida also congratulated the UAE for its successful convening of the COP28 climate conference.
Sheikh Mohamed expressed his gratitude for Japan’s position on the issue as well as for its assistance.
