
TOKYO: The Japanese Foreign Ministry appointed veteran ANDO Toshihide as Director-General of the Middle East and African Affairs Division, effective January 15.
Before the appointment, Ando was serving as Director-General of the Consular Office. He will succeed NAGAOKA Kansuke.
Ando, born in Tokyo in 1966, graduated from the Department of Economics at the University of Tokyo in 1989.
After joining the Foreign Ministry, he held many positions, including Assistant Director of the Public Affairs Department of the Economic Bureau and Assistant Director of the International Agreements Division, Treaty Office.
Furthermore, Ando worked in the Office of the Prime Minister’s Official, Cabinet Secretariat.
He also served in the Japanese Embassies in Australia, the United States, Singapore, and India.
