TOKYO: The government of Japan on Sunday congratulated Mohammed Mustafa on his appointment as Prime Minister of Palestine and paid respect to the work done by Mohammed Shtayyeh, the former Prime Minister.
Palestine President Mahmoud Abbas issued a presidential decree on Thursday asking Mustafa to form a new Palestinian government.
A statement issued by Foreign Ministry Press Secretary KOBAYASHI Maki in Tokyo stated that Japan expects reforms from the new government.
It added that the government of Japan will continue to contribute to efforts for a two-state solution under which Israel and Palestine, as a state, will live side by side in peace and security.
The statement said Japan will continue to assist Palestine in this matter in cooperation with relevant countries and international organizations.
