TOKYO: KAMIKAWA Yoko expressed deep concerns about the possibility of an Israeli large-scale military operation in Rafah.

The Japan’s Foreign Minister strongly called on Israel to take action to reach a humanitarian ceasefire to ensure a conducive environment for sufficient humanitarian assistance activities as well as to lead to the release of the remaining hostages, thereby resulting in the realization of a sustainable ceasefire.

Kamikawa’s remarks were made in a telephone talk on the evening of April 3 with her Israeli counterpart, Israel Katz, to discuss the situation surrounding Israel and Palestine.

The Japanese foreign minister also emphasized the critical importance of compliance with international law, including international humanitarian law.

Additionally, Foreign Minister Kamikawa mentioned that Japan is deeply concerned about the deaths and injuries of aid workers killed by Israel on April 2 and requested a proper investigation and measures taken to prevent the recurrence of such incidents.

Kamikawa also reiterated Japan’s position that the Israeli settlement activities violated international law and called for effective measures.

Furthermore, Foreign Minister Kamikawa stressed the necessity of avoiding further spillover of the conflict into the region.

Katz made remarks based on Israel’s position, the Foreign Ministry in Tokyo said without elaborating.

“Both sides concurred that close communication was necessary to develop bilateral relations and achieve regional stability,” the Ministry said.
