TOKYO: A demonstration was held in the Ikebukuro district of Tokyo on Sunday under the banner “Ikebukuro Demo for Peace and Freedom in Palestine.”

Demonstrators gathered first in East Ikebukuro Central Park, near the station, in the shadow of the Sunshine City Building, once Tokyo’s tallest building.

The protesters waved banners and the Palestinian flag and denounced Israel’s war against the Gaza Strip with slogans such as “Free Palestine,” “From the River to the Sea, Palestine will be free,” “Boycott Israel,” and “Ceasefire now.”

After giving speeches against the genocide being committed by the Israeli military occupation, murdering neatly 40 thousand Palestinians, the protestors took to the streets carrying banners with messages like “Solidarity with Palestine and Gaza,” “Stop the Genocide in Gaza,” “Your silence is violence,” and “Stop the Israeli Massacre” against the Gazans.

Ikebukuro Station is the second-busiest station in the world after nearby Shinjuku Station. It handles an average of 2.7 million passengers every day and serves areas to the north of Tokyo.
