TOKYO: From May 19 to 21, Tokyo is hosting SusHi Tech Tokyo 2024, which promises “a spectacular voyage to the future” as it showcases the technology of the future, such as flying cars.

SusHi Tech Tokyo 2024 is an international event that highlights Tokyo-originated innovations for solving problems often faced by urban areas all over the world and offering a model for future urban centers.

The event includes “Living in Tokyo in 2050,” which showcases sustainable lifestyles made possible by technological advances. The goal, say the organizers, is “to create a sense of empathy about the Tokyo of the future and inspire motivation for what lies ahead.”

It is being held in and around Olympic venue Ariake Arena, where visitors will be able to pass through a corridor projecting futuristic images, giving the impression of a “time slip” into the future. With the aid of cutting-edge technology, visitors will be able to look at a day somewhere in the future and see what might happen to items such as food, clothing, shopping, and transportation. Demonstrations will include a flying car.

This year’s events will also include the Global Startup Program, the City Leaders Program for city leaders from the world’s five continents, and the Showcase Program, a multivenue session that introduces a model for future cities.

Panel discussions and themes will include: “What can we think of and do to act for the future?”; self-sufficiency and sustainable food culture; toward a sustainable mobility society; human activities that remain unchanged amid technological progress; and sustainable design for coexistence between humans and nature.
