TOKYO: Japanese Member of Parliament SUZUKI Muneo, who has close ties with Russia, says, “No matter how you look at it, Ukraine cannot defeat Russia if Ukraine fights Russia on its own.”

And that’s why  “the Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky, has been asking for continued support in terms of weapons and funds (from the NATO and European countries,)” Suzuki noted in his blog.

Suzuki believes it is important to seek peace and protect all lives not just in Ukraine, but all over the world. “The war will eventually end. No war is endless, but if it drags on, the victims will be children, women, and the elderly. Every life is precious and should be regarded as such.”

Suzuki recalled how “overzealous soldiers” in the Japanese Imperial Army wanted to arm women and children to defend their nation at the end of the Second World War.

“I was among the first to call for peace and a ceasefire (in Ukraine) soon after the war started on February 24, the year before last,” Suzuki said. “I was heavily criticized on the internet, called a Russian spy or Putin’s lapdog, but I have steadfastly advocated for a ceasefire and peace above all else.”

“I sincerely hope that at next week’s G7 summit, Prime Minister KISHIDA (Fumio) will play a significant role in moving towards a ceasefire and peace.”

Suzuki added a scornful view of America’s decision to supply Ukraine with weapons to attack Russian territory, which, he said, “will only lead to further tragic consequences.”
