The warning came after Seoul announced the same day a plan to suspend its visa waiver for Japanese citizens, following a similar action by Tokyo on South Koreans.
Michael Ryan, executive director of the WHO's health emergencies program, told a press conference in Geneva that entry restrictions should be carefully considered, based on public health evidence, noting that unnecessary restrictions had been seen in the world's history.
He stressed that attention should be paid to the fact that the two Asian countries have both taken great measures to prevent the viral spread.
