TOKYO: Japan has condemned Friday’s drone attack on the Israeli city of Tel Aviv but has not commented on Israel’s response, which involved missile attacks on civilian targets in Yemen, including schools.
“The Japanese government condemns this recent Houthi drone attack,” Foreign Minister KAMIKAWA Yoko told the media on Tuesday. “We are deeply concerned about the current situation in the Middle East and seek to avoid further escalation. We will continue to actively engage in diplomatic efforts with a strong emphasis on reducing tensions and stabilizing the situation in the Middle East.”
Israel reported several casualties from the Houthi drone attack and responded with airstrikes “carried out on highland schools and other locations in Yemen.” Kamikawa was replying to a question from Arab News Japan on her country’s position on the Israeli attacks.
Yemen reported that three people were killed and 80 injured because of the Israeli attack on the Houthi-controlled Red Sea port of Hodeidah, which hit a power station and an oil storage facility.
