OSAKA: The Japan High School Baseball Federation decided Wednesday to cancel the 92nd national spring invitational tournament due to the spread of the new coronavirus.
The decision was made at an extraordinary steering committee meeting held in Osaka, western Japan.
The spring tournament was to begin on March 19 at Hanshin Koshien Stadium in Nishinomiya, Hyogo Prefecture, western Japan.
The tournament was suspended between 1942 and 1946 after the end of the Pacific War. When the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake struck in 1995 and the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011, the tournament was held with simple operations. Some summer championships were canceled in 1918 and 1941.
