TOKYO: Japan will work toward peace in Somalia through the TICAD meeting of ministers later this month, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Monday.
The Ministry was responding to a terrorist attack on August 2 on a beach in Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia, in which 37 people were killed.
“Terrorism cannot be justified for any reason,” the statement said. “Japan strongly condemns all forms of terrorism.”
It added that it will use this month’s TICAD Ministerial Meeting “to continue its efforts towards peace and stability in Somalia in collaboration with the international community, including African countries.”
Japan offered its condolences to the victims and their bereaved families and expressed sympathy to those who were injured.
TICAD is the Tokyo International Conference on African Development. The next TICAD will be held in Yokohama in August next year.
