TOKYO:  Japan expressed its “deep concern” over numerous civilian casualties caused by the Israeli strike on the al-Tabeen school in the northern Gaza Strip that took place on August 10 and said it extends its heartfelt condolences to the victims and their bereaved family members and also expressed its deepest sympathy to those who were injured, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Japan reiterated its stance on “the importance of protecting the civilians,” and urged all parties to act in accordance with international law, including international humanitarian law, and to act in good faith based on relevant UN Security Council resolutions, including ensuring humanitarian assistance.

Japan also expressed serious concern that numerous civilians, including women and children, have been so far affected, as well as the humanitarian situation in Gaza has remained critical.

The statement strongly urged all parties concerned to seize this opportunity and work toward the releasing of Israeli “hostages” and commit to a sustainable ceasefire, a crucial step towards lasting peace.
