TOKYO: Democratic People’s Party leader TAMAKI Yuichiro has been forced to shut down his policies website “AI Yuichiro” after less than a month as it contravened the terms of use of ChatGPT.

OpenAI, which governs ChatGPT, says the service cannot be used for political campaigns.

“I would like to cooperate in the proper use of AI in the political field, so it is a pity, but I will stop providing AI Yuichiro,” Tamaki posted on his website. “I sincerely apologize to all of you who have been using this service for such short notice.”

Tamaki was following in the footsteps of Tokyo Governor KOIKE Yuriko, who used an AI avatar – “AI Yuriko” – to promote her policies.

The DPP’s policies and Tamaki’s past statements were inputted into AI Yuichiro, and when users asked questions on the website, the AI responded in a conversational manner. The system proved popular as AI Yuichiro’s responses were said to resemble Tamaki’s own, and more than 100,000 questions had been asked since its launch on July 8.

When asked how the party would deal with high fuel prices, the AI responded with such answers as “We will support the livelihoods of the people.”

Tamaki says he will consider creating a similar site using a different AI tool in the future.
