TOKYO: Japan’s Foreign Ministry has announced that Ambassador for Palestinian Affairs and Representative of Japan to Palestine NAKASHIMA Yoichi and Antoine Renard, Country Director of the United Nations World Food Program in Palestine, signed and exchanged notes for grant aid to the Palestine Food Assistance Program in the amount of 400 million yen (approximately $2.7 million) in Ramallah on Wednesday.

In Palestine, the food situation is worsening due to high unemployment, a deterioration of economic and fiscal circumstances, and logistical difficulties, as well as soaring global food prices that have resulted from the conflict in Ukraine.

There is an urgent need for food assistance in Palestine, with the entire population of the Gaza Strip facing a food crisis since the start of the current conflict between Israel and Palestinian.

Based on a request from the Palestinian Authority, this latest assistance from Japan is expected to provide food assistance and improve food security in Palestine. It is also expected to contribute to the stability and improvement of public welfare.
