TOKYO: The Japan Coast Guard’s Mobile Cooperation Team from its International Strategy Division has recently conducted capacity-building support on maritime safety and security for the Djibouti Coast Guard (DCG).
The Japan Coast Guard (JCG) dispatched three members of its Mobile Cooperation Team—a special team that provides coast guard agencies in other countries with capacity-building support on maritime safety and security—to the Republic of Djibouti from October 17 to November 2 under the framework of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
The Japan Coast Guard will continue supporting the DCG’s capabilities to contribute to maritime security around Djibouti, which borders important maritime transportation routes for Japan.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the Japan Coast Guard said it will continue to strengthen cooperation with other coast guard agencies “to realize a ‘Free and Open Indo-Pacific, ‘based on the rule of law.”
The JCG said it will also provide technical assistance to coast guard agencies in the Indo-Pacific region.
For the Djibouti Coast Guard, the JCG carried out boarding training using the DCG’s land facility and boat, and stoppage and pursuit training. It also provided instruction for instructor candidates and advice on teaching methods.
