
TOKYO: Japan “supports the efforts by the United States and France toward a diplomatic settlement” to end the fighting in Lebanon, Foreign Minister IWAYA Takeshi said in a statement.
The Japanese Foreign Minister welcomed the ceasefire agreement “between the governments of Israel and Lebanon on November 27 mediated by the United States and France.”
“In light of this agreement, Japan strongly demands that all parties take all measures to fully implement the ceasefire agreement and commit to regional stability,” the statement said.
Minister Iwaya restated Japan’s position urging all parties to fully implement relevant UN resolutions, including Security Council Resolution 1701, to abide by international law and to “exercise maximum restraint.
