TOKYO: The disapproval rating for Japanese Prime Minister ISHIBA Shigeru’s cabinet has surpassed the 50 percent mark, according to a recent Nikkei-TV poll conducted in Tokyo.

The disapproval rating rose five percentage points from the previous survey to 51 percent.

Asked why they do not approve of Ishiba’s cabinet, the most common answer (32 percent) was “the central role played by the ruling Liberal Democratic Party” in the cabinet, which was only formed after October’s general election.

Surprisingly, at a time of various domestic problems, the next major fault identified by 30 percent of the respondents was a “lack of international awareness.”

The cabinet’s approval rating slipped five points from the November survey to 41 percent, with 39 percent citing “Ishiba’s trustworthiness” as the main reason for supporting him, followed by 26 percent who liked the central role played by the LDP.
