TOKYO: Japan has allocated an additional 13.5 billion yen (approximately 86 million dollars) for humanitarian assistance to Palestine in its supplementary budget for this fiscal year, Foreign Minister IWAYA Takeshi announced on Tuesday.
“The fighting in Gaza has been prolonged and the humanitarian situation continues to be critical,” Iwaya said. “Under these circumstances, in order to improve the humanitarian situation in Gaza, the Japanese government has decided to make an allocation of 13.5 billion yen in the supplementary budget as assistance related to Palestine, including Gaza.”
The assistance will cover a wide range of areas, including medical, health and sanitation, food, financial assistance to Palestine, debris removal, waste disposal and infrastructure. It will be handled by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and various international organizations.
“We are determined to continue to work actively to improve the humanitarian situation in Gaza,” Iwaya added.
