Japanese, Indian coast guards hold joint summit and training exercises

TOKYO: Japan Coast Guard (JCG) Commandant SEGUCHI Yoshio joined with the Director General of the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) Paramesh Sivamani on Friday for the “JCG-ICG Annual Summit” in Tokyo.

The coast guard officials observed a joint exercise focusing on marine environment protection and disaster prevention at the Yokohama Maritime Disaster Prevention Base. The JCG National Strike Team (NST) and ICG exercise simulated a response to hazardous and noxious substances and the NST served as the instructor for classroom lectures on techniques to deal with hazardous substances.

In addition, training using oil control equipment was conducted on ICG patrol vessel “Shaunak,” which was visiting Japan for the first time in six years.

The heads of the JCG and ICG confirmed the importance of their cooperation and collaboration in realizing a Free and Open Indo-Pacific.

They agreed to continue to strengthen their cooperation and to work together to maintain safety and security in the Indo-Pacific region.
