
TOKYO: MATSUMOTO Hisashi, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, on Tuesday told Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi that the international community needs to support a peaceful and stable transition process in Syria, Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported.
Matsumoto was paying a courtesy call on Jordan’s Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister. He said Japan is paying close attention to the situation in the Middle East and expressed a willingness to work closely with Jordan on issues such as assistance to Palestine and Syria.
He also thanked Jordan for its assistance with the evacuation of Japanese nationals.
In response, Foreign Minister Safadi stated that the situation in the region is extremely tense. He added that it is important to work together with Japan, which Jordan regards as a close partner.
Minister Safadi then explained the latest situation on the ground, as well as Jordan’s diplomatic efforts.
The two ministers agreed on the importance of trust between the two countries and confirmed that they will continue working together on various matters, including defense cooperation.
