DUBAI: Japan on Wednesday confirmed its support and cooperation with the Syrian government and its people.

In a meeting with Syria’s Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan Al-Shibani, Japan’s Director-General of the Middle Eastern and African Affairs Bureau ANDO Toshihide said the future of the nation lies in Syrians’ hands. He also stressed the right of the Syrians to self-determination and the unity of the Syrian territories.

According to a statement by the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ando emphasized the need for Syrians to decide the future of their country.

He added Japan will be keen to participate in the future in international conferences supporting Syria, and is ready to exchange expertise and experiences between the two countries.

Al-Shibani said it was important to strengthen ties between Japan and Syria, and thanked the Asian country for its support in reconstruction and the return of the displaced.
