TOKYO: Japan’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs FUJII Hisayuki told Tunisian Ambassador Ahmed Chafra on Thursday that Tunisia, as a gateway to the Middle East, Africa and Europe, plays an important role in maintaining stability in the region.

Shahra paid a courtesy call on Minister Fujii, who stated that Japan places importance on the partnership with Tunisia. Fujii said he hopes to further develop multi-layered relations with Tunisia, including in political, economic, and cultural fields.

Ambassador Chafra said he hoped to enhance relations between the two countries through political dialogue, promotion of the investment environment and increased exchanges of VIP visits.

The two sides exchanged views on the situation in the Middle East and agreed to cooperate toward this year’s Osaka-Kansai Expo and the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9).
