Japan announced plans to grant Lebanon’s Karagheusian Association for Child Welfare with essential medical equipment and a water purification system to Karagheusian Primary Health Care Center.

Through the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Program (GGP), the assistance will help vulnerable populations in Bourj Hammoud, one of the poorest districts in Mount Lebanon, including Syrian refugees, for several years.

On Thursday, Ambassador MAGOSHI Masayuki signed a grant contract with Serop Ohanian, Lebanon Field Director Karagheusian Association for Child Welfare.

The center serves approximately 600 to 800 outpatients per day, a number that has been growing year by year.

Given its crucial role in responding to the medical needs of the most vulnerable patients, Japan said it will support improving healthcare quality at the center through the provision of an ultrasound diagnostic device and a water purification system.

The ultrasound device will allow the center to conduct around 1,000 ultrasound examinations annually, and the water purification system will provide purified water to approximately 210,000 individuals who visit the center annually, reducing the risk of waterborne diseases.

At the signing ceremony, Ambassador Magoshi praised the center’s ongoing efforts to improve its medical services and other operations.

He emphasized that Japan would continue its support for Lebanon’s healthcare sector, especially in the most deprived areas where access to healthcare services remains a significant challenge due to the ongoing social and economic upheaval.

For his part, Ohanian expressed his gratitude for Japan’s timely support and expressed his appreciation of the Japanese people’s generosity.
