Arab News Japan

TOKYO: A demonstration was held in Tokyo on Sunday in support of Palestine and condemning US President Donald Trump’s suggestion that the United States could “own” the Gaza Strip and remove the Palestinians from their land.

A banner carried by a multinational group of protesters proclaimed in Japanese and English: “Trump, you will not take over Gaza!” and “Stop supporting the genocide!” as well as “Boycott Israel.”

The demonstration was held in front of Shinjuku Station – both Japan and the world’s busiest station – and the protesters marched along the area’s busy streets to spread their message.

One sign said, “U.S. out of everywhere,” while another stated, “Glory to the Martyrs; long live the resistance.”

Demonstrations in support of Palestine have been held on a weekly basis in the Japanese capital, attracting members of the local Muslim community, Japanese and Westerners.

Many of the protesters also criticize Japan for its alliance with the United States and Japanese companies for doing business with Israeli military suppliers.

Two protesters held up a picture of dead Palestinian children with the slogan, “Save the children of Palestine.”
