

TOKYO: Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf told his Japanese counterpart IWAYA Takeshi on Friday that his country is aiming to strengthen cooperation with Japan in various areas, including economic aspects, in preparation for the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9).
The two foreign ministers met in South Africa where they are attending the G20 Foreign Ministers Meeting.
Iwaya reciprocated Attaf’s sentiments and stated that Japan wants to work with Algeria, which is currently a member of the UN Security Council, on regional and international issues.
Both sides also exchanged views on cooperation in the international arena and the situation surrounding the Middle East, including Gaza and Syria, and agreed to continue to work together.
The two ministers affirmed the importance of trust between the two countries and agreed to continue cooperating, particularly considering their long-standing friendly relations and economic cooperation.
