TOKYO: Chief Cabinet Secretary HAYASHI Yoshimasa told Japanese media the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas is a vital step toward peace, and efforts should be made to extend the agreement.

Hayashi is quoted as saying: “The increase in the delivery of humanitarian supplies and the release of a total of 38 hostages are important steps toward improving the humanitarian situation and reducing tensions. A total of 38 hostages have been released and we appreciate this as an important step toward improving the humanitarian situation and calming the situation, which is what our country has been calling for.”

“The process of the agreement must not be halted, and it is important that the agreement is implemented sincerely and steadily, including the transition to the second phase. We once again strongly urge all parties to work toward the continuation of the agreement.”

Hayashi said that to speed up the delivery of humanitarian assistance, it is important that checkpoints such as Rafah are reopened to allow humanitarian supplies into the Gaza Strip.
