TOKYO: A demonstration was held in front of the American Embassy in Tokyo on Thursday to protest American and Israeli interference in Syria.

The protesters said they were “opposing the American occupation of part of Syria, unjust sanctions, exploitation of resources and Israel’s invasion, attack and settlement in Syria.”

They said that Israel had repeatedly bombed Syria – including the capital, Damascus – at the same time as committing atrocities in Palestine. These attacks and the occupation of southern Syria have intensified since deposed President Bashar Assad fled the country at the end of last year.

The protestors also stated that the United States had deployed “thousands of soldiers” in Syria and had been taking Syria’s oil for over a decade.

They complained that US-led sanctions were continuing even after the new government came into power, and these are preventing Syria’s reconstruction, as well as destabilizing the lives of the Syrian people.

The protesters chanted, “Let’s stand in solidarity with the Syrian people and demand the withdrawal of the US and Israel!” Others shouted, “End the US occupation of Syria, unjust sanctions and the exploitation of resources.”
