TOKYO: Local media continue to report on the Osaka-Kansai Expo, but not all the stories focus on the prestigious aspects of the event. The Sankei newspaper reported that an 83-year-old man was arrested for stealing a bottle of honey from the exhibition booth of the Kyrgyz Republic in Commons A, where 29 countries are showcasing their displays together.

The local man surprised everyone by quickly confessing, marking the first arrest at the Expo by the Osaka Prefectural Police.

According to the police, the exhibit was a sample of a product the country sells on an online shopping site at 6,800 yen ($48) for 200 grams.

The suspect was apprehended as he put the honey in his bag and tried to leave the building. In addition to the honey, the man had several other items that appear to have been made overseas, and police are investigating how he acquired them.

Meanwhile, Yomiuri TV reported a fire alert at the French Pavilion just after 9 a.m. Visitors to the pavilion were temporarily evacuated, and three fire engines were dispatched to the scene, but no fire or smoke was discovered.

One visitor remarked that he thought it was part of a performance; however, the most likely explanation is that someone simply set off the fire alarm.

On a more positive note, the Kuwait Pavilion has provided a unique and captivating experience for its visitors. According to the Sankei, the scenery displayed on a large globe has left attendees in awe.

A video is displayed on the sphere, which is then surrounded by smoke before a door opens to reveal a further interior zone.

The exhibit allows visitors to learn about the country’s history, culture, nature, and its relationship with Japan. The reporter stated, “It felt just like staying in Kuwait.”
