TOKYO: American Ambassador-Designate George Glass met with Japanese Foreign Minister IWAYA Takeshi on Monday. The two discussed various important bilateral issues, including tariffs, trade relations, and regional security concerns.

Foreign Minister Iwaya welcomed Ambassador-designate Glass and expressed his intention to engage in open discussions aimed at strengthening the Japan-US Alliance, the Foreign Ministry in Tokyo stated.

Glass emphasized the importance of the Japan-US Alliance, stating it is a cornerstone of their relationship. His commitment to further strengthening the Alliance was a key part of the discussion.

Iwaya and Glass discussed the current relations between Japan and the United States, focusing on US tariff measures and the broader regional situation. They also talked about China’s increasing influence and North Korea’s nuclear program, both of which have significant implications for Japan-US relations.

Iwaya stated that he plans to work closely with the United States and requested continued understanding and cooperation for the immediate resolution of the North Korean abductions issue.

Both sides discussed Japan-US security and defense cooperation, along with strategies to enhance the Alliance’s deterrence and response capabilities.
