TOKYO: Japan’s Foreign Ministry has issued a level 3 travel advisory, warning against travel to Port Sudan for any purpose.

This advisory comes in response to intermittent clashes between the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), as well as drone attacks by the RSF targeting Port Sudan.

Additionally, the Ministry has reinforced the existing level 4 evacuation advisory, which instructs individuals to leave Sudan urgently.

“Please avoid traveling to Sudan and Port Sudan for any reason. There is a risk of ongoing attacks, and the situation remains extremely dangerous. If you are currently in the country, prioritize your safety and stay informed about the latest developments. If possible, consider leaving Sudan.”

The warning highlighted that Port Sudan Airport, Flamingo Base, oil facilities, the downtown area, military sites, government buildings, and their surroundings are at high risk of collateral damage and are very dangerous.

The Embassy of Japan in Sudan is temporarily closed, and a temporary office will be established at the Embassy of Japan in Egypt, according to the Ministry.

The Japanese warning highlights the importance of detailed survival measures for citizens remaining in Sudan due to unavoidable circumstances. It advises securing means of communication and transportation, stocking up on water, food, and fuel, and refraining from going outside unless necessary.
