TOKYO: Japan’s Prime Minister ISHIBA Shigeru said on Friday he held a 45-minute phone call with U.S. President Donald Trump to discuss tariffs, diplomacy and security issues.

The two exchanged hopes for an in-person meeting during the Group of Seven (G7) leader’s summit scheduled next month, Ishiba told reporters. He added that Japan’s stance of demanding the elimination of U.S. tariffs has not changed.

The leaders’ call came as Japan’s top negotiator AKAZAWA Ryosei heads to Washington for the third round of tariff talks.
