TOKYO: An academic agreement has been signed between the Institute of Oriental Philosophy (IOP) and the International Institute of Islamic Thought and Civilization at the International Islamic University Malaysia (ISTAC-IIUM).

The agreement was signed at the 39th annual conference and symposium of the Institute of Oriental Philosophy titled “Dialogue between Islam and Buddhism: Faith and the Essence of Human Beings” at Soka University in Hachioji, western Tokyo.

Speakers at the conference included ISTAC-IIUM Dean Datuk Dr. Abdelaziz Berghout and Head of Research Nurul Ain Norman, both of whom also met with Soka Gakkai President HARADA Minoru.

The IOP was founded in 1962 by IKEDA Daisaku, the former head of Soka Gakkai, to advance scholarly inquiry into Buddhism and other global religions.
