
TOKYO: Japanese Foreign Minister IWAYA Takeshi held a telephone talk with his Iranian counterpart Seyyed Abbas Araghchi on Tuesday and urged Iran to reach an agreement on its nuclear issue with the United States, Japan’s Foreign Ministry reported.
The two ministers reportedly had a “candid exchange of views” on Iran’s nuclear issue and Iwaya emphasized that Japan strongly hopes for a peaceful resolution of the problem and that Iran should not miss the opportunity to reach an agreement with the United States.
Iwaya urged Iran to take concrete actions to fulfill its obligations under the safeguard’s agreement of the International Atomic Energy Agency and stated that Japan will continue its diplomatic efforts for a peaceful resolution of the issue.
In response, Minister Araghchi explained the position and efforts of Iran and both ministers agreed to continue close communication in pursuit of peace and stability in the region.
