TOKYO: Japanese Prime Minister ISHIBA Shigeru on Friday said he was in “deep sorrow” following the air crash in India on Thursday.

In a message of condolence to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Ishiba stated: “I am in a deep sorrow by hearing the news of the loss of many precious lives in the airplane accident in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.”

“On behalf of the Government of Japan and people, I would like to express our heartfelt condolences to those who lost their lives and their bereaved families. I also pray for the speedy recovery of those who were injured.”

According to the Foreign Ministry, Ishiba issued messages of condolences to the United Kingdom, Portugal, and Canada, who all lost citizens in the crash of the Boeing 787 airliner.
