
TOKYO: Japan’s Foreign Ministry urgently called upon its citizens residing in 19 Arab and Middle Eastern countries to exercise heightened vigilance amidst the “rapidly deteriorating” situation in the region. This advisory follows Israel’s military operations targeting Iran, with threats of continued aggression.
“It is vital for our citizens to stay informed and prioritize their safety during these uncertain times. Please be careful to collect and confirm the latest information from multiple sources, including flight information,” the travel safety department in the Ministry announced.
The statement said that Israel has issued a state of emergency following its “pre-emptive attack” on Iran. There have been reports of Iran directing drones toward Israel, and further attacks are expected, the Ministry said.
“When traveling overseas, it is crucial to inform your family, friends, workplace, etc., of your itinerary and contact information . This will be invaluable in case of an emergency,” the Ministry stressed.
Travelers staying over three months should submit a residence notification for emergency contact verification by the local diplomatic mission. Those staying less than three months are encouraged to register for safety updates and provide their contact information.
Countries and regions covered by this alert included Afghanistan, Yemen, Israel, Palestine, Iraq, Iran, Oman, Egypt, Eritrea, Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Djibouti, Syria, Sudan, Turkey, Bahrain, Jordan and Lebanon.
