TOKYO: Japanese Foreign Minister IWAYA Takeshi told his Iranian counterpart Seyyed Abbas Araghchi on Monday that he was “deeply concerned” about the possibility of greater conflict in the Middle East, Japan’s Foreign Ministry reported.

Iwaya expressed strong concern about the current exchange of attacks spreading throughout the Middle East and said that any action that further escalates the situation should be avoided. Japan, he added, is urging all parties concerned to exercise maximum restraint.

Iwaya also asked for Iran’s support in securing the safety of Japanese nationals, and Minister Araghchi responded that Iran will fully support Japan.

Araghchi also explained the position and efforts of Iran and both ministers agreed to continue close communication at various levels between “for the peace and stability of the region.”
