TOKYO: SHII Kazuo, the Chair of the Japan Communist Party’s Central Committee, has issued a statement saying Israel’s attack on Iran must be unequivocally condemned.

He further called on the international community to be unified in taking action, such as sanctions that would help prevent Israel’s repeated violations of the UN Charter and international law in Palestine.

Adding the fact that Israel continues to expand its illegal settlements and perpetuate violence and occupation in the West Bank, Shii noted that many in the international community have also condemned the Israeli acts of genocide.

He censured Israel’s claim that it had to act against Iran’s nuclear development program, saying their claim did not excuse them from violating the United Nations Charter and international law, particularly as negotiations were under way.

Shii added that unilateral military action during such ongoing diplomatic processes was totally unacceptable and Israel should be clearly and strongly condemned for its actions. Israel should immediately halt all further acts of aggression, stressed Shii, but he urged Iran to exercise restraint and avoid retaliation.
