TOKYO: Japan on Sunday evacuated 21 of its nationals and their family members (including five foreign family members) who wished to leave Iran, and they arrived safely overland from Tehran, the capital of Iran, to Baku, the capital of neighboring Azerbaijan.
According to the Foreign Ministry, this evacuation follows the first one carried out on June 19-20, and is being supported by the Embassy of Japan in Iran and the Embassy of Japan in Azerbaijan.
In Baku, two members of the Emergency Deployment Team (ERT) dispatched by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and a medical officer dispatched by the Embassy of Japan in Turkey are also providing support.
Japan will continue to closely monitor developments in the situation and take all possible measures to protect Japanese nationals, including providing further evacuation support, the Ministry said.
