TOKYO: Demonstrators held a protest in support of Palestine in Tokyo on Saturday with the protesters asking the question, “What is worse? The genocide that goes on, or the silence you keep?”

Japanese and foreigners joined in the “Sound Up For Palestine” demonstration against the genocide in Gaza in the youth-oriented district of Shibuya and a banner held up by the protesters featured an animated drawing of drumsticks beating a keffiyeh-patterned drum.

The protestors chanted, “Intifada, Intifada” and raised banners calling for “Free Palestine,” “Israel out from Palestinian land” and “Abolish Israel.”

One demonstrator told Arab News Japan, “I am here to help with the ‘Sound Up’ demo for about the sixth time, but there are still very few people in Japan who raise their voices against the massacre in Palestine.”

The demonstrator said it was an opportunity to spread awareness in the city and to unify the feelings among those who are protesting, to work together.

“I think it’s important for people in Japanese society to pay attention to various countries and to consider that we share the planet,” the demonstrator added.
